Dr. Georgi Smatrakalev received his Ph. D. in the Institute of Economics at the Bulgarian Academy of Science, Sofia, where he is a Senior Associate Researcher. He is also an Associate Professor at the New Bulgarian University , Sofia. Since September 2002, Dr. Smatrakalev has been a Fulbright scholar and is doing research in “Family income taxation” at FAU. He is teaching two courses for undergraduates - "European Union Taxation" and "Tax planning" and "European Tax Policy" - on line course for Masters at FAU. He is a specialist in taxation and tax policy, he was Alexander Hamilton Fellow 1991-1992 in Southern Illinois University and also has grants from European Commision - TEMPUS and A.C.E PHARE Program for Income taxation and was attending Maastricht University for 7 months.
